Comprehension
How was the situation different from when Olive and Cliff were in London?
• Find and copy a phrase that shows Cliff is really enjoying the Luftwaffe flying over.
• Why do some people think the lighthouse is a danger?
• How did Queenie react to the planes? Did you expect this reaction? Explain your answer.
• Why might Cliff be more excited than Olive?
• How do you think Olive felt when she found out Esther Jenkins was coming to stay?

Writing task
• Write the first half of the chapter again, but from the perspective of one of the Luftwaffe pilots.
• Write an apology note from Ephraim, sensitively explaining why you can not care for Esther Jenkins..

Creative Curriculum
• Look at the lighthouse on the cover. Imagine some ways you could camouflage the lighthouse to stop the Luftwaffe seeing it. Design these camouflaged ideas and annotate them.
